Dr. Vasilios Bellas
Vasilios, born in 1976 in Athens, Greece,
received degrees in chemistry and polymer
science from the Universities of Ioannina
and Athens, respectively. He completed a
PhD thesis at the NCSR "Demokritos"
working on silsesquioxane-based resist
materials suitable for high-resolution
lithography. After a short stay in the
Hellenic Air Force, he joined the group of
Prof. M. Rehahn at Darmstadt University of
Technology and Deutsches
Kunststoff-Institut as a postdoctoral
researcher. In Darmstadt he focused on
polyferrocenylsilane chemistry and, in
addition, he developed a universal
methodology for the synthesis of
well-defined block copolymers. Later on,
he moved from academia to industry,
working in new products' research and
development as well as in quality
assurance issues. Now he is pursuing his
career as a Marie Curie Fellow in Prof.
Ian Manners' group. His research interests
lie in living polymerization methods, the
synthesis of well-defined block copolymers
with complex architectures, functional
macromolecular materials for
nanoapplications and block copolymer
self-assembly..
